Wooda Holiday Park Celebrates 50 Years in Business

This year, Wooda Farm Holiday Park in Bude, proudly celebrates its 50th anniversary—a remarkable milestone for this cherished, family-run destination. From its humble beginnings as a working farm to becoming one of the UK’s premier holiday parks, Wooda’s journey is a testament to the Colwill family’s dedication and vision.
“We are so proud to have reached our 50th year of trading in our family business. We are so grateful to all our staff and customers who have helped make this possible. As a family we are passionate about Wooda and are very much looking forward to the next 50 years!”

A Legacy Rooted in Family and Tradition
The story of Wooda began in 1928 when Jim and Bessie Colwill acquired the farm. Their son, Ken, alongside his wife Elizabeth, expanded the farm’s offerings, introducing a bed-and-breakfast service. Recognising the potential of tourism in the area, Ken transformed a portion of the farmland into a small caravan site in 1975, laying the foundation for what would become Wooda Farm Holiday Park.

Today, the third (and fourth!) generation of the Colwill family, Graeme and Kerry, alongside their daughter Charlotte, continue to uphold the family’s values. Their hands-on approach ensures that guests experience the warmth and personal touch that sets Wooda apart from corporate-run parks

Growth and Recognition
Over the decades, Wooda has evolved into a five-star holiday destination, boasting 55 luxury holiday homes, 9 eco-lodges, 2 self-catering cottages, and over 200 touring and camping pitches. The park’s commitment to excellence was recognised in 2024 when it was named the Best Family Campsite in the UK by campsites.co.uk and ACSI in 2023.

Embracing Sustainability
Sustainability is at the heart of Wooda’s operations. The park utilises solar panels, groundwater systems, low-energy lighting, and other eco-friendly practices. The Gwelva Hills eco-lodges, for instance, are constructed with locally sourced materials and feature living roofs, blending seamlessly with the natural landscape.
