Why Cornish businesses have a responsibility to strive for sustainability

We catch up with the founder of Cornish clothing brand MOR, Tom Biddlecombe, to learn more about the business giving back to the place in which it was born.

  1.  Why did you launch your own clothing brand MOR?
MOR was born from my love for the sea and the Cornish coast. I set out to create clothing that reflects that connection — authentic, ocean-inspired, and sustainably made to give back to the planet. While many outdoor clothing brands exist, I wanted MOR to feel different: classic, effortless, and versatile.

  2. Tell us more about the ethos of your brand.
MOR is inspired by the Cornish sea and driven to protect it. Our designs capture the essence of Cornwall, while our mission supports charities and initiatives working to safeguard its future.

  1.    What charities do you work with?
Five per cent of each sale goes to support Surfers Against Sewage on their mission to stop pollution in our waters, rivers and oceans, a charity I’m very passionate about.

  1. Living in Bude, what do you love about this location?
I love the rugged beauty of Bude’s coastline — from rocky coves to sweeping sandy beaches, it always has something new to offer.

  2. A favourite piece from the collection, and why?
The Wrangles Tee is my favourite — the first piece I ever created. It’s a classic, simple organic t-shirt that pairs effortlessly with jeans or shorts for an easy, everyday look.

  1.    What local businesses inspire you?
I’m a big fan of the work Finisterre are doing to help put Cornwall on both the clothing map as well as giving back to support charities and preservation initiatives.

  1.    Where’s your favourite Cornish spot?
Ahh, it has to be Bossiney Cove – it’s my happy place!

  1.  Where do you hope to see your business in five years’ time?
I’d love to grow the business to be able to have a greater positive impact on the preservation of both Cornwall’s coast and seas.
