Description
Steeped in history and brimming with character, Libertine is a truly extraordinary home-from-home. Originally built in 1603 as a vicarage hall in the charming village of Breage (pronounced Breeg), this creatively curated property is like stepping into another world – part Gothic manor, part global explorer’s haven – and a luxurious escape for up to eight guests.
Perfectly positioned just five minutes’ drive from the sandy shores of Praa Sands and the postcard-perfect harbour of Porthleven, Libertine offers complete privacy while remaining close to South Cornwall’s scenic highlights.
Inside, this showstopping property is a feast for the senses. Carefully restored by its artist-owners over six years, the interiors are rich with texture, warmth and global treasures. Think exposed granite walls, layered textiles, antique furnishings and church relics – all lovingly chosen and beautifully styled to create a unique and soulful space.
The sitting room is a dramatic centrepiece, centred around a huge, medieval-style fireplace and a roaring wood-burning stove – ideal for cosy winter stays. A second snug provides another relaxed space to unwind, complete with a romantic antique Indian opium bed and its own fire.
In the dining room, an antique walnut table comfortably seats ten beneath a sparkling chandelier. A medieval stone arch adds to the atmospheric charm, while a hidden bar cabinet completes the scene for decadent dinner parties or celebrations.
The kitchen is a sleek contrast – thoroughly modern and equipped to perfection, with premium appliances by Smeg and Gaggenhau, plus a boiling hot water tap for effortless teas and coffees.
Libertine sleeps eight guests in decadent style, across four stunning bedrooms – including one super-king and three doubles. All doubles have their own en-suite, with a mixture of freestanding baths and walk-in showers. The master suite is a sanctuary of its own, featuring gym equipment, a reproduction oil painting, and a bed originally purchased by Sean Connery for his wife. Two further rooms are adorned with antique beds, including one believed to have once belonged to Versailles.
Entertainment is thoughtfully covered, with superfast broadband, Alexa Echo Dot, a 65” curved LED TV with Sky (movies and sport), Netflix and Amazon Prime, a Sonos surround sound system (indoor and outdoor), plus a hidden TV lift in the master suite. And for those preferring slower moments, the shelves are well-stocked with books for fireside reading.
Outside, the enchantment continues. The beautiful gardens offer peaceful corners and glorious views, while the heated outdoor pool with jacuzzi area, built-in barbecue, and fire pit make for unforgettable evenings under the Cornish sky.
Stylish, soulful and utterly spellbinding, Libertine is no ordinary holiday home – it’s a celebration of history, artistry, and indulgent comfort. A truly rare gem for those looking to stay somewhere unforgettable.
