Hidden up a winding lane between ancient granite hedges, Higher Trenowin Farm Shop is a forager’s dream, marrying organic veg beds, heritage-breed livestock and fruit orchards into a biodiverse showcase. Third-generation farmers Mike and Annie James run the site on regenerative principles: no-dig soil culture, mob-grazed Dexter cattle, solar-powered irrigation and pollinator corridors thick with phacelia. Harvests travel metres, not miles, to reach the rustic timber-clad shop: rainbow chard, purple sprouting broccoli, heritage tomatoes, alongside raw milk, kefir and farmhouse cheeses from their small creamery. Fridays see wood-fired sourdough and cruffins emerge from Annie’s converted shipping-container bakery; Saturdays host a producers’ market featuring Penzance micro-roasters and artisans. Visitors can pick-their-own strawberries (June) and pumpkins (October) or book tractor-trailer tours exploring beehives, coppice woodland and wildlife ponds. The refill wall dispenses oats, pasta and eco detergents, while a seed-swap library encourages community self-sufficiency. Open Wed–Sun 9 am–5 pm; pre-order veg boxes online for beach-house delivery. For hyper-local produce and an inspiring glimpse of farming’s future, Higher Trenowin grows goodness from the ground up.
