Cheerfully occupying Rock’s old ferry keeper’s cottage, Four Boys Café takes its name from owner Emma’s quartet of adventurous sons who can often be spotted surfing the estuary chop visible from the picture windows. Inside, pastel-painted tongue-and-groove, vintage wetsuits hung from ceiling hooks, and chalkboards crammed with daily specials create a breezy, homespun vibe. Breakfasts are the area’s gold standard: shakshuka with Trevilley Farm eggs, overnight oats soaked in Rude Health coconut milk, or freshly flipped American pancakes stacked with Cornish blueberries. Lunchtimes bring towering crab club sandwiches, Vietnamese-inspired banh mi using pulled pork from St Kew Farm, and vegan sweet-potato falafels stuffed into pita. Locally roasted Yallah coffee keeps walkers caffeinated, while kids race miniature wooden ferries along the windowsills. Gluten-free cakes (try the orange-almond polenta) and refill-your-own oat-milk station underline the café’s eco ethos. In summer, grab a sun-bleached deckchair on the slipway and watch the Padstow ferry shuttle across the estuary; in winter, retreat inside to the log-burner and board-game stash. Private sunset picnics can be pre-ordered—think bamboo hampers of prosecco, charcuterie, and wildflower brownies delivered to your beach blanket.
